These workshops are part of our Family Tree Program, Universal Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Services. These workshops are funded by TDPRS-STAR and are open to the general public.

The Power of Play in Parenting

While many of the parenting skills discussed in this workshop were developed for Therapeutic Supervised Visitation, they have wide application for all parents, as well as the professionals who work with parents. Those attending will learn the power of play in developing relationships with children as well as how to design an effective parenting strategy.

Workshop Goals

Those who attend this workshop will learn how play is used to teach parents how to better:

1. Prepare for Parent-Child time

2. Communicate with children

3. Set and enforce boundaries, and

4. Problem Solve

We have many conversations everyday, but do we successfully communicate? Do others receive the message you wish to send? Are you accurately reading their messages? This workshop is designed to maximize your ability to hear and be heard in everyday conversations with family, friends, and co-workers, so that you can create the personal and professional relationships you want.

Workshop Goals

Participants will:

1. Learn the basics of communication, sending and receiving information;

2. Learn and practice active listening techniques;

3. Explore communication styles tailored to family relationships; and,

4. Reduce their personal barriers to good communications so they can experience increased success in their interactions with others.

 

Divorce Sanity - Co-Parenting

This educational workshop is designed to provide parents with the information and skills needed to minimize the impact of divorce on their children and maximize their parenting skills in their life long parenting relationship.

Workshop Goals

By the end of the workshop, parents will know the importance of and learn some techniques to:

1. Avoid/resolve parental conflict without involving their children

2. Provide for free and frequent access to both parents, and

3. Create child environments that are consistent, predictable and structured.
