Adoption Social Study
A pre-adoptive social study is conducted for a child who is being adopted. The resulting report includes documentation of interviews that were conducted and information that was gathered. Based on that information, the evaluator assesses to determine whether the applicants meet the requirements for approval as adoptive families.
A post-placement adoptive social study and report is required after the placement of the child. It is a written summary of all of the information and assessments regarding the child and the family, and the adjustment of all individuals to the placement.
Step Parent Adoption Social Study
In a Step-Parent Adoption Social Study, the pre-adoptive and post-placement requirements are combined into one process and one report that is sent to the adoptive parent(s), their attorney, and the court.
Choosing an evaluator: Cheap or Complete?
We are not the cheapest provider of Adoption Social Studies in Denton County. We could do it cheaper if we didn’t know the legal requirements (just saying*). However, if your goal is to have a social study which fulfills all the legal requirements of an Adoptive Social Study, then we might be a good choice. We charge $75 / hour and a simple Step Parent adoption usually takes less than 10 hours.
If you have questions, Jake Jacobson, LCSW, Holly Duke, LPC, and Janie Lewis-Zygiel, LPC conduct social studies at CCD.

[*Screening Question: After you ask an evaluator how much the social study costs, ask the evaluator where one would find the legal requirements for an adoptive social study in Texas law. If they don't know, you might want to choose a different provider.]
